COLMAR POCKET CAMO BATTLE DAMAGED HEER HELMET
Q64 single decal M40 combat helmet, the hand-painted camouflage paint is mostly a shade of brown and the helmet has suffered a catastrophic impact to the skull, also a minor 'ding' to the skirt. Of greatest interest is the label stuck to the inside skirt fabricated from the border of a postage stamp sheet, which reads from what can still be made out ' found in deutsche panzer tank Kunheim Winter*****'
Kunheim is in Frances Alcase regieon next to the Rhine, and here, during late '44 - '45 was the scene of heavy fighting in the battle of the Colmar pocket.
The liner is complete and totally original to the helmet, all leather tongues are present and remain supple, chin strap minus.
Seldom do you find a battle worn helmet that you know where and which battle it was lost! Superb piece of WWII history.
