WSS WIKING SOLDBUCH

Book opened 29/12/43 to Konrad Brag born on 28/10/21 in Hamburg. In his civilian life he was a car mechanic. Soldbuch photo has nice portrait showing his SS collar tab. His studio photo has an excellent photo of Konrad again showing SS runes tab and his overseas hat with TK.
He spent time with some training units including an interesting one with SS Kraftfahr Ausb u Ers Reg in Weimar-Buchenwald. His first posting is with SS Pz Aufkl Ers Abt based in Seelager near Riga. Konrad was still with them on 3/5/44. At some point from this date he moved to SS Pz Aufkl Abt 5 as he was with them on 5/9/44. This unit were part of SS Division Wiking. In this unit he was a Panzerwart II (armour mechanic) He was also armed as shown by entries in his Soldbuch. Included is his Fuhrerschein and he was given his klasse 2 on 25/4/44 allowing him to drive KFZ half-track vehicles as well as repair them. He likely joined up with SS Division Wiking mid July 1944 after their rest period was over. This being the case he would have been part of Wiking in late July taking the Russians on in Kamieniec, Poland. Wiking was forced back from this position and ended up in the battle for Warsaw. Further combat was seen in Hungary before the Division fled west to avoid being taken POW/Shot by Russian forces. Konrad must have been one of the lucky ones to be taken POW by US forces as shown by his POW number on front of his Soldbuch.
